The fabric depicted is of the highest quality; it is used for archbishops chasubles during religious ceremonies. Such a fabric can be flawless or it may have folds, wrinkles and "dark areas". The "Transformations" series is Eva Marathaki’s personal interpretation of religion, religious politics and practices.
Eva Marathaki graduated in 2001 from the University of North London (BA French/Spanish & Latin American Studies) and continued her studies at the Athens School of Fine Art, graduating in 2010 with distinction. In 2013 she completed the Fine Arts Postgraduate program at ASFA (2011-2013). She was the recipient of the Excellence Award “Georgios Jakobides” (2011) by the Nikolaos Papadimitriou Educational and Cultural Foundation, and the “Early Artist Entry Award” for the Artists Wanted: The Power of Self 2011 international open call. She was a resident artist in Glo’art Center, Lanaken, Belgium (2014). She has worked as a set and costume designer for the theater and is a founding member of SKOUZE3 - an artist run space and a member of the ATONA? Theater Company. Her works can be found in private collections in Belgium, Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece and the United Kingdom as well as in the collection of Alphabank.
